GRAPES AND RAISINS by Lawrence Roman

Charlie, aged 65, a widower in fine physical shape, is interested in women. But not in young women; that’s culture shock. In this contemporary comedy set at the beach in Southern California, Charlie observes the area to be a garden of "mature women". Widows, as husbands die before wives; divorcées. And he regards them as natural resources. They have depth, they have history. Lonely, they have needs. Ever ready to be helpful, Charlie offers companionship, wisdom, and, yes, romance as he expresses what he knows to be true. The years may add up, aches and pains may come and grow, but in everyone feeling remains.

When his daughter finds out that Charlie is the Lothario of the neighbourhood, she is appalled. When Polly a lovely widow appears, poor Charlie. She succeeds in learning his lessons, but also in putting him through some very comic turns.
